Adam Morris Recovery Fund

This past weekend I witnessed a freak accident. My fraternity brother, Adam Morris, and I were riding our motorcycles down Appling Road in Memphis, TN when a deer ran out in front of us. Appling is not a country road in the middle of the woods. It has 3 lanes on either side with a turn lane in the middle and is surrounded by neighborhoods and businesses. It’s not everyday that you see a deer at 2 PM in the middle of the city. Because of traffic, Adam didn’t see the deer run out into the road and by the time he did he hit it head on. We were probably going around 40 to 45 MPH and he didn’t have time to hit the brakes. He was thrown from the bike and somersaulted down the road right next to me. I immediately pulled my bike over and could hear him screaming for help. I ran over to him and saw that his right leg had been mangled. I called 9-1-1 only to be put on hold. It seemed like forever, but I was probably only on hold for a minute or two. I advised that that there was an accident between a motorcycle and a deer and to send an ambulance.About 5 minutes later, the fire department showed up and stabilized Adam. Many people had stopped to see what had happened and were told to clear out. About 5 minutes after that, the paramedics showed up and put a splint on his leg. Adam was conscious the entire time and undoubtedly in an extreme amount of pain. A lady named Christy held Adam’s hand the entire time the paramedics were working on him. They finally got him into the ambulance and took him to our local trauma center, THE MED.They discovered that Adam has a mid shaft femur fracture, a proximal femur fracture, tibial plateau fracture, a second metacarpal fracture, and has road rash on his arms and shoulders. The deer didn’t make it. It died on impact. Stupid deer.

Adam has had one surgery on his femur and has an external fixator alighning his bones as they wait on the swelling to go down. They are hopeful that it will heal enough to where they can go back in next week and install a permanent rod in his femur and a plate in his tibia.

Adding insult to injury, like many other motorcyclist, he put his insurance for his bike on hold for the winter. For this reason, his bike will not be covered under insurance for this wreck. He still owes about $5000 on a bike that he will never ride again, yet still has to pay for. For this reason I have opened a paypal account where his friends, family, and kind hearted folks can help Adam out and get rid of this extra liability, so he can concentrate on getting healed up and back on his feet.

I hope that you find it in your heart to share this story with others and spread the word, so we can get Adam back on his feet. Our goal is to raise enough money to pay off his bike loan, but if we can raise enough to just fix the bike so he can sell it, that would be great as well. Thanks for reading Adam’s story. If you would like to donate to Adam’s cause you can send any dollar amount to this paypal account:
